A small shrub up to 1m.  This lovely species is from southernJapanandTaiwanand is the earliest blossoming of all hydrangea species. It’s beautiful in flower and very fragrant, a rare trait amongst hydrangeas. Leaves oblong and serrate, sometimes tomentose. Flowers in terminal cymes.  Fertile florets bordered by serrate sterile           creamy yellow florets
